Prof. Thirumalachari Ramasami is a former Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Science and Technology. He served the Government during May 2006-14. Earlier he served as the Director of  Central Leather Research Institute of CSIR for more than ten years. He is currently Honorary Professor of Eminence at the Anna University. He is a recipient of more than seventy-two awards and professional honours and recognitions. The notable ones include Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for chemical sciences in 1993, Padma Sri in 2001 and Padma Bhushan 2014. He is an elected fellow of all the major science academies. He is a coauthor of the monograph on Musical Excellence of Mridangam along with Dr Umayalpuram K Sivaraman and Dr M D Naresh. He is a coauthor of more than 250 scientific publications, about fifty patents and twelve process know how. Several of his technologies are in commercial exploitation. His current interests are on technology-policy interface and innovations to connect mind to market chain and science to needs of humanity.
